Depression Taking Its Toll Over People in BritainIt has been reported that the cases of depression in Britain are increasing significantly. Every year, the medical authorities of Britain spend £11 billion for provide care and treatment to patients suffering from depression.

Medical experts are of the view that economic downturn might have caused surge in the number of depression cases. Depression is often neglected by the family members of patients. It is important to note that if depression is left untreated, then suicidal tendencies among the patients may increase significantly.

It has been informed by the House of Commons that due to depression people have succumbed to a loss of £8.97 billion from their income, every year. Moreover, those who commits suicide leads to a loss of £1.47 billion.

The authorities of the NHS have been providing care to depression patients timely. Every year they spend about £237 million for hospital care, £230 million for antidepressant drugs, £46 million for doctors' time and £9 million for outpatients' appointments.

However, Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson still believes that the need of depression stuck patients is not being met with. "The failure to tackle depression hurts us all. It makes a misery of the lives of sufferers, costs the NHS in terms of time and medication and hampers business by forcing some people out of work”, Jo Swinson said.

It is hoped that the authorities concerned would take the serious note of the increases cases of depression cases and would come up with effective measures to deal with. By providing consultation to people, who are vulnerable of being affected with depression, the government can reduce the increasing cases of depression significantly.

Since 2010, more than 43.4 million antidepressants drugs have been prescribed to patients. Care and love can help people or overcome the global crisis. Family members and friends are being requested to take good care of each other unless and until the government come up with concrete step to deal with wide spread financial crunch and depression.
